A featherweight scrap featuring one of Canada’s most promising talents is set to go down next month.
On Thursday, UFC officials announced that Charles Jourdain will take on Steve Garcia at the Fight Night event slated for March 13. The bout will see “Air Jourdain” looking to get back in the win column after a couple of close fights.
Montreal’s Jourdain (10-3-1), a former double champ in TKO, is without a win in his last two bouts. But not for lack of effort. The Canadian lost a split decision to the always-dangerous Andrei Fili last June. Things were even closer in October, when Jourdain and Josh Culibao fought to a split draw.
Bellator vet Steve Garcia (11-4) lost his UFC debut last February at UFC Norfolk, taking on “Violent Bob Ross” on short notice. While he lost the fight, coming up a weight class on short notice tends to lead to being rewarded, and that would seem to be the case here.
The UFC’s March 13 event is now headlined by Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad, with Muhammad stepping in to replacing the ailing Khamzat Chimaev. The Fight Night card currently breaks down as follows:
Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad
Ricardo Ramos vs. Zubaira Tukhugov
Matheus Nicolau vs. Tagir Ulanbekov
Jinh Yu Frey vs. Gloria de Paula
Davey Grant vs. Jonathan Martinez
Ray Rodriguez vs. Rani Yahya
Jason Witt vs. Matthew Semelsberger
Eryk Anders vs. Darren Stewart
Don Madge vs. Nasrat Haqparast
Ben Rothwell vs. Philipe Lins
Dan Ige vs. TBD
Misha Cirkunov vs. Ryan Spann
Charles Jourdain vs. Steve Garcia
