ONE Championship’s Unbreakable II aired Friday, with heavyweight action atop the card. And opening it as well. In the main event, Mauro Cerilli returned to the win column, looking to work his way back to title contention by defeating Russia’s Abdulbasir Vagabov. Setting up the finish with a leg kick, the first round TKO improved Cerilli to 2-2 in his last four, including a loss to champ Brandon Vera.
Opening the Unbreakable II card, meanwhile, was another heavyweight rumble. In it, top prospect Oumar Kane (better known, perhaps, as “Reug Reug”) improved to 2-0 with a TKO win over Alain Ngalani. The Senegalese Kane, a wrestling champion, may lack in experience, but he has the base to go far in mixed martial arts.
The fight that stole the show at Unbreakable II, however, was Kwon Won Il vs. Chen Rui. An absolute war saw Rui eat blow after blow, but keep on coming in zombie-like fashion. Aside from his impressive chin, Rui managed to return fire more than enough to keep the fight interesting. But it was South Korea’s Il, a.k.a. “Pretty Boy,” who did the most damage.
