Gerald Meerschaert vs. Bartosz Fabinski is the latest addition to the UFC’s April 17 Fight Night card.
The middleweight scrap will see both fighters looking to bounce back from recent losses. The news was first reported by MMA DNA.
In his last fight, Meerschaert (31-14) was tasked with taking on Khamzat Chimaev. The bout ended in 17-seconds with “GM3” crashing to the mat after a brutal one-punch knockout. Fabinski, meanwhile, had the peculiar experience of taking a fight in Cage Warriors against fellow UFC fighter Darren Stewart back in March. That came as a result of UFC London falling through last minute. After picking up a win that night, he was submitted in the octagon by Andre Muniz this past September.
Since the Meerschaert fight, Chimaev’s name has seen a meteoric rise in popularity. Meercshaert really didn’t have the chance to fight in his last bout, with Chimaev scoring the knockout in just 17 seconds. The Wisconsin native will be looking to get back into the win column and erase that performance from fan’s minds. Prior to the Chimaev fight, Meerschaert was finished by Ian Heinisch within a round.
As noted, Fabinski (15-4) is coming off a rough loss to André Muniz where he was submitted by an armbar in the first round. The “Polish Butcher” is 2-2 across his last four fights overall, however. Fabinski’s striking has come a long way, and the Polish fighter proved a lot in defeating the very tough Emil Weber Meek.
At the moment, Gerald Meerschaert vs. Bartosz Fabinski is the first fight to be added to the UFC card on April 17. That’s likely to change soon enough. For the time being, no location or venue has been announced for the event.
