It looks like Bethe Correia’s dream of having one last fight under the bright lights of the UFC banner will have to wait. Correia (11-5-1) recently underwent emergency surgery for appendicitis and now will become the first fighter of 2021 to be removed from a fight card.
MMA Fighting was first to report the news.
Correia was reportedly cut from the UFC roster back in August of 2020 but signed a bout agreement with the company that saw her rise to MMA fame for one last fight. Her return had been dubbed as a retirement fight, with Correia expected to go up against Wu Yanan on January 16. But unfortunately it looks like Bethe Correia will be looking for a new date as she recovers from her surgery.
Taking to social media, Bethe went into detail on how she experienced unbearable pain before being admitted to hospital, where she was advised by her doctors that she needed the emergency surgery. The graphic photos and video Correia posted on her personal Instagram shows just how severe the appendicitis really was.
Correia confirmed that her retirement fight will be postponed, thanking the UFC and its president, Dana White, for their support throughout the years.
We wish Bethe Correia a speedy recovery.
