The UFC returns to Fight Island this weekend, with a bantamweight showdown between Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen. Also on the UFC Fight Island 5 card is Edson Barboza, Ben Rothwell vs. Marcin Tybura, the return of Thomas Almeida, and no less than six exciting debuts. In a heavyweight bout, Sergey Spivak was taking on Tom Aspinall (8-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC). Now that Spivak is out Aspinall will be welcoming Alan Baudot to the UFC.

How will Baudot fare in the UFC:

Baudot has a fun style but overall he fights as a very green fighter. On the feet, the Frenchman has a good bounce in his movement. He loves to throw elbows leading with them and utilizing them in spins showing his dynamic style from his Muay Thai base. Baudot throws a good body kick as well, and his athleticism shows when you tune into his fights. Although he has some good striking tendencies his chin is suspect and he does not like getting hit. Baudot has good judo but once he gets the fight to the mat he’s not exactly high level. He throws good ground and pound but lacks positional awareness. A lot of times he will hit takedowns but is the one who ends up on his back. Baudot isn’t likely to have too much success in the UFC as he’s at more of a regional level fighter from what he has shown thus far.

How he matches up with Aspinall:

Tom Aspinall is a good boxer. He has good power and exceptional hand speed that will give Baudot a lot of problems. If Baudot does get Aspinall down he could find some success against him as Aspinall isn’t as good on the mat. However I just don’t think Baudot is the guy to exploit any flaws on the ground when it comes to Aspinall. And the longer this fight stays standing the higher the likelihood of Aspinall finding the finish becomes. I’ve got Aspinall because he has the clearest path to victory.
