The UFC returned to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi with a splash one week ago. UFC 253 saw Israel Adesanya retain his middleweight title, while Poland’s Jan Blachowicz claimed light heavyweight gold. A week later, however, it was the women’s bantamweight division’s time to shine at UFC Fight Island 4.
With 135lb champion Amanda Nunes otherwise occupied defending her featherweight title, the bantamweight division had been given time to produce a contender. With four of the top six fighters in the weight class in action at the event this Saturday, that was quite likely to happen. The leading candidate, the winner of Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana — especially if Aldana could defeat the former champion and #2 ranked fighter in the weight class.
The number one ranked fighter, and most recent bantamweight title challenger, was also in action. Germaine de Randamie was set to take on Julianna Pena on Saturday — and while less likely to earn a title shot, a big performance from either lady could land them in the conversation.
Weigh-ins for the event were set to take place Friday morning. Check back starting at 9AM ET for updates.
No issues at the scales Friday — the full card made weight for UFC Fight Island 4 without incident.
