After winning his way into the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series last week, William Knight already has his octagon debut date set.
Announced during UFC Vegas 9, Knight will face Aleksa Camur at UFC 253 later this month.
Knight (8-1) was making his second Contender Series appearance last Tuesday when he defeated Cody Brundage in an impressive comeback. His first outing on the show had resulted in a win over Herdem Alacabek, with a developmental deal being awarded to the “Knightmare.”
Since earning that developmental deal, Knight has gone 3-1, including his win over Brundage. But he’s a developmental fighter no longer.
Camur (6-0) is also a Contender Series veteran, winning a UFC contract on the show in 2019 thanks to a flying knee finish of Fabio Cherant. Camur won his debut fight inside the octagon earlier this year at UFC 246, with a unanimous decision over Justin Ledet.
UFC 253 is set to take place September 26, making this a rather short turnaround for William Knight. But willingness to take fights and fight often has created huge opportunities for UFC athletes in 2020, with the promotion in constant need of bodies during the pandemic thanks to travel restrictions.
The event will be held on “Fight Island” (Yas Island) in Abu Dhabi, with middleweight champ Israel Adesanya defending his title against Paulo Costa in the main event.
