Darren Stewart made quick work of Maki Pitolo at UFC Vegas 6, earning a quick guillotine finish inside the first round.

Maki Pitolo was all set to visit “The Dentist,” Darren Stewart, at UFC Vegas 6 on Saturday night. And it’s a fight that “Coconut Bombz” was more than happy with. Wanting to “wake up” the middleweight division and show that he meant business, Hawaii’s Pitolo was thrilled to be getting a step up in competition Saturday. At the UFC Apex, where some of his biggest moments had been achieved.

For the aforementioned “Dentist” otherwise known as Darren Stewart, well he was looking to bounce back from a loss against Bartosz Fabinski at Cage Warriors 113, which borrowed the pair of UFC athletes after UFC London fell apart back in March.

Stewart and Pitolo started off quickly, with Stewart throwing a quick combination to the body and Pitolo throwing a clean knee to kick-off the round. The two briefly brawled before stepping back and calming down. Stewart tended to be pushing forward with Pitolo on the back foot, and Stewart was attempting to work his jab, but he got wobbled by a right hook by Pitolo early. Stewart recovered in part to Pitolo not pushing the pace, but once Stewart recovered he shot in for a takedown that was quickly reversed with Pitolo getting a takedown of his own. However, Stewart grabbed onto a guillotine on the way down, and he got the tap! What a shocking submission by Darren Stewart, out of nowhere.

It’s the third straight win for Darren Stewart in the Octagon (if you don’t count the Cage Warriors loss to Fabinski that was kind of a UFC fight), what a career turnaround for the British fighter who at one point was on the brink of being cut right after signing with the promotion. Since starting his UFC career 0-3 (1), he’s gone 5-1 inside the promotion.
