Germany’s Peter Sobotta is tasked with taking on Cowboy at the UFC Fight Island 3 card.
Not Cerrone, though he fights so often it’s almost a surprise that he’s not taking part in this month’s Abu Dhabi shows. Rather, it’s Brazil’s Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira that welterweight Sobotta (17-6-1) has been paired up with on July 25. Their UFC Fight Island 3 bout sees the Polish-born German looking to bounce back from a loss to Leon Edwards.
So far, Sobotta’s experience during fight week, despite quarantines and multiple COVID-19 tests, has been a positive one. “We are treated like kings. I feel like a million dollars. It’s just great to be here, and great to have the possibility to keep going,” he told Cageside Press during a virtual media day held ahead of the card.
And now that his quarantine is officially over, he gets to explore. “The whole island is only for us, so we can move around anywhere,” Sobotta said. “Definitely a trip we will never forget.”
In Cowboy Oliveira, Sobotta faces a rather unpredictable foe. “He’s a good fighter, for sure. He’s a wild guy, unorthodox,” Sobotta opined. “He’s very explosive and fast, especially in the first round. So that’s probably the most dangerous round, the first round.”
“He’s a wild guy. Wild guy,” he reiterated. “It was a little bit difficult to prepare for him, so I have to stay calm, keep a cool head, open my eyes and see what’s coming. If everything works out, I’m pretty confident I can win this fight by finish.”
Peter Sobotta meets Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira as part of UFC Fight Island 3 (UFC on ESPN 14) this Saturday, July 25. The card airs live on ESPN (TSN in Canada).
