Ian Heinisch was a big part of UFC 250, right up until he wasn’t. And then he was again.
In short, it’s been a roller coaster of a week for Contender Series alum Heinisch. Entering the week expecting to fight Gerald Meerschaert, he instead learned that one of his cornermen had tested positive for COVID-19. Suddenly, he was off the card for precautionary reasons.
Then, just as suddenly, he was back in the fight, the test result deemed a false positive.
Whether those distractions would play a role in the fight, meanwhile, was anyone’s guess. Gerald Meerschaert was stuck waiting to see just who he would fight, meanwhile. But it was Heinisch and Meerschaert throwing down after all, on the preliminary portion of UFC 250 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
This one did not last long. The fight began with an inside leg kick from Ian Heinisch. Heinisch then dropped Meerschaert with a huge right hand coming over the top, which was the beginning of the end for this middleweight bout. Heinisch swarmed Meerschaert, punishing him with heavy bombs. The ref saw enough to end the fight in the very first round.
Official Result: Ian Heinisch def. Gerald Meerschaert by TKO, Round 1, 1:14
