The UFC is targeting a bout between flyweight contenders Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo to headline their event on June 13.

Per Brett Okamoto of ESPN, a fight between flyweight contenders Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo is being targeted for a UFC Fight Night on June 13.  With several fighters jostling for position in the open women’s flyweight division, the match-up is critical toward getting the winner up the rankings.

Jessica “Evil” Eye is looking to make it two in a row since challenging Valentina Shevchenko for the flyweight title last June.  In December, she returned to the win-column with a victory over Viviane Araújo, but the fight was not without controversy as Eye missed weight by five pounds for the bout.  Eye moved down to flyweight in 2018 and put together a string of wins over opponents Kalindra Faria, Jessica-Rose Clark, and Katlyn Chookagian prior to her shot at the world championship.

Cynthia Calvillo will be returning to flyweight for the first time since her MMA debut after several well-chronicled struggles in the UFC.  Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Calvillo had been scheduled to make the move up in weight against Antonina Shevchenko on April 25 before the event was cancelled.  The moves comes as no surprise as Calvillo expressed the likelihood of moving up after missing the non-title strawweight limit of 116 pounds three times in seven UFC fights, most recently coming in at 120.5 pounds for her last fight.  Calvillo has not lost since dropping a bout to Carla Esparza in 2017 and over the course of her career has posted victories over Joanne Calderwood, Pearl Gonzalez, Gillian Robertson, and Cortney Casey.  She is currently coming off a draw against Marinna Rodriguez in December.

No other bouts for the card have been announced.
