UFC 250 has another interesting fight on its hands. Getting a solid test, budding star Sean O’Malley is set to take on veteran Eddie Wineland at the PPV event.
ESPN was first to report the news.
O’Malley (11-0) lost two years off his career due to repeated troubles with USADA, in a case believed to be linked to a contaminated supplement. When he returned this past March, the 25-year old faced José Alberto Quiñónez, who he finished — setting up the end with a head kick.
Wineland (24–13–1) was the inaugural bantamweight champion back in the WEC, in 2006. He successfully defended the belt the following year. In the UFC, he competed against Renan Barao for the interim 135lb title in 2013, at UFC 165. Wineland came up short in that effort, and has gone 4-4 since, fighting sporadically.
Now 35, Wineland competed just once last year, but made it count. He picked up a win over Grigory Popov at UFC 238 in June. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak for the former contender.
UFC 250 is expected to take place on June 6, 2020. The event does not have a location officially announced. However it is widely believed that the event, and several upcoming UFC cards, will take place at the promotion’s Apex facility in Las Vegas.
