UFC Jacksonville: Omar Morales Discusses Moggly Benitez’s Gnarly Shin

A nasty gash on the shin of Gabriel Benitez had jaws dropping following Omar Morales’ win at UFC Jacksonville.

UFC lightweight contender Omar Morales discussed his victory over Gabriel Benitez and the gnarly open shin that he left “Moggly” with, his desire to fight the winner of Drew Dober and Alexander Hernandez, and more following a big win at UFC Jacksonville.

The pair battled it out for a full three rounds, with Morales taking home the unanimous decision victory, with a pair of 29-28 scores. A single judge awarded all three rounds to Morales.

Improving to 10-0 on the night, it was the second straight win inside the octagon for the Venezuela athlete. In his UFC debut, he also took a unanimous decision against South Korea’s Dong Hyun Ma.

After the fight, however, it wasn’t necessarily the performance by Morales that fans were talking about. Not that it was a bad showing — quite the opposite. However, by the end of the fight, opponent Benitez was left with a deep, nasty gash on his shin. One that TV cameras did not miss, giving viewers an up close and personal look at the inside of Gabriel Benitez’s leg.

Speaking on the injury, Morales said of Benitez “Moggly is a warrior.  He came forward the entire fight and didn’t show that the leg was bothering him at all.  I did notice that it was bleeding profusely and that he didn’t stop throwing leg and body kicks.  I tried to keep pushing my rhythm and not pay attention to his leg because he was going to keep coming forward with or without a leg because he’s a warrior.”

Yikes.
