Struggling heavyweight, Marcin Tybura was able to get back in the win column with a decision win over Sergey Spivak.

Heavyweight action at UFC Norfolk saw Marcin Tybura, a highly touted talent when he entered the UFC, with his back to the wall. Tybura had lost his last two bouts. Worse, he’d dropped four of his last five. His lone win in that span, dating back to 2017, was a decision against Stefan Struve. On Saturday at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Tybura looked to turn things around against Sergey Spivak. 1-1 in the promotion to date, ‘The Polar Bear’ was looking for his second straight win.

Here is how the action went down

Round 1:

Tybura took the center of the cage and started to pump out his jab to attempt to find his range. Spivak started the action by crashing the pocket and snapping the Polish fighters head back with a big right hand. He backed Tybura up with a few jabs but was suddenly taken down with a perfectly timed double-leg.

Tybura sat inside Spivak’s closed guard and started to work with punches and elbows. The Moldovan fighter tried to pull Tybura in tight while hoping to get stood up by the referee, but Tybura was able to posture off and batter him with hard punches and elbow fists for the remainder of the round.

Cageside Press scored the round 10-9 for Tybura.

Round 2:

Spivak came out aggressive in the second round by firing off big haymakers and knees. Tybura looked for the takedown and was in deep but was unable to take Spivak down. The Polish fighter was able to muscle Spivak to the cage and began to work for the clinch. He dropped down on his adversary’s hips several times but was unable to get him down before the referee separated them. Once separated Tybura backed Spivak up with punches, until he landed on top when Spivak missed a judo throw. In a scramble, Tybura was able to lock in his hooks and pepper Spivak with small punches to the side of the head until the round expired.

Cageside Press scored the round 10-9 for Tybura.

Round 3:

Once again, Spivak came out firing hard shots to open the round but was backed against the cage by Tybura. The Polish fighter couldn’t take him down and Spivak was able to find separation and get off the fence. Back in the center, Spivak began to find his jab and stuff some takedown attempts from the Polish fighter. With two minutes left in the contest, Tybura was finally able to take Tybura down and finished the rest of the round on top landing punches and elbows.

Cageside Press scored the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Tybura.
