Dates for the UFC’s second quarter continue to trickle out. Kazakhstan. Saskatoon. And now, Austin, Texas.
Combate was first to report that a women’s flyweight fight was joining June’s UFC Austin. That bout, the first revealed for the Texas card, will feature former Invicta FC flyweight champ Jennifer Maia taking on Viviane Araujo.
The Austin card has yet to be officially announced by the UFC. However, it’s expected to take place June 27, potentially at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
Maia (17–6–1) is coming off a loss to the most recent women’s flyweight title challenger, Katlyn Chookagian, back in November at UFC 244. That snapped a two-fight winning streak for the Brazilian. A bigger issue, however, is that Maia has missed the flyweight limit in two consecutive fights.
Araujo (8-2), also a native of Brazil, last fought in December, when she lost to Jessica Eye at UFC 245. She’s 1-1 in the weight class inside the UFC, and 2-1 in the promotion overall. Coincidentally, her opponent in that fight, Eye, missed weight, so she’s no stranger to facing fighters who come in heavy. Notably, Araujo holds a win over former women’s bantamweight title challenger Alexis Davis.
With the second quarter slowly shaping up for the company, expect more fights to be revealed for the card in the coming weeks.
