Combate Americas is returning to Mexico City with a rematch between champion Melissa Martinez and Desiree Yanez on March 20.

Combate Americas has announced that they will be returning to Mexico City on March 20 with a rematch for the strawweight championship featuring Melissa “Super Mely” Martinez and Desiree “Dirty Dez” Yanez.  The event is scheduled to take place at the Frontón Mexico, which frequently holds events for the Lux Fight League.

Martinez and Yanez fought to a razor close split-decision last December for the inaugural women’s championship in Combate Americas.  The fight saw the grappling of Yanez frequently stifle Martinez on the ground and “Super Mely” control exchanges on the feet.  Martinez (7-0) is undefeated with all but one of her professional fights taking place under the Combate Americas banner.  Yanez (5-2) was a relative newcomer to the promotion going into the first fight and had experience fighting in LFA prior to joining the company.

The announced co-main event will be a lightweight bout between undefeated 20 year old prospect Daniel Zellhuber (8-0) and Southern California product Tommy Aaron (6-4).  A native of Mexico, Zellhuber is expected to have the support of the crowd as he looks to record his fourth victory in the company.  Aaron will be entering the cage for the first time since 2018 and has experience fighting in both Bellator and LFA.

Also announced in the bantamweight division is a bout between David “The Black Spartan” Martinez  and Jesse “Sui Generis” Strader.  Martinez (3-0) is looking for his third victory in the promotion and trains out of Bonebreakers MMA which is based out of Mexico City.  Lancaster, California’s Strader (5-1) has become a stand-out in his short stint in the promotion with several exciting bouts in the company and was featured on the Top 10 on Sportscenter for his knockout victory last August.

In a statement via a press release from the company, Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren stated “It is fitting that we do this much-anticipated rematch in world-class Mexico City and the reigning world champion’s hometown, and we expect to see astronomical TV ratings with it.”
