Invicta FC’s first show of 2020 goes down this Friday, with Invicta FC 39 taking place at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. The main event was to feature atomweight champ Jinh Yu Frey defending her title against Ashley Cummins — but things went sideways at Thursday’s weigh-in.

Frey, who won and then defended the atomweight title in 2018 against Minna Grusander in 2018, missed championship weight. As a result, she was forced to vacate the title. Only opponent Ashley Cummins, who successfully made weight, will be eligible to win gold Friday. The pair previously fought in 2017, with Frey the victor.

Another curveball came as Shanna Young did not weigh in to illness. That means her flyweight bout with Daiana Torquato is off the card.

Frey released a statement on social media later in the day:

To my absolute humiliation, this morning I missed the atomweight limit. I have plenty of reasons, but they don’t matter.

I failed in my professionalism. The fight will proceed, but I will be stripped and not fighting for the belt. If I win, I will receive the next title shot.

After the event, my husband and I will revisit this and discuss where we go from here and where my future lies.

I still have a 5 round fight on the horizon, so for now that will have to await my attention.

My apologies to my opponent, her camp, Invicta, and the fans for failing in my duties. But, for now my mind and focus is on tomorrow.

Full weigh-in results are available below. The event airs live Friday, February 7 on UFC Fight Pass.
