Jon Jones has his first fight of 2020 set, as he’ll take on Dominick Reyes at the would-be UFC 247 card in Houston on February 8.

The UFC has its February PPV headliner set. A fight first reported by BJPenn.com, Jon Jones vs. Dominick Reyes, will top the event, expected to be UFC 247. The card will take place February 8, 2020 at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. UFC President Dana White confirmed Jones vs. Reyes to ESPN Friday.

One small wrinkle is the naming/numbering of the event. Currently, UFC 246 is expected to go down January 18 in Las Vegas. However, as negotiations for the return of Conor McGregor are still ongoing, there’s a chance that event could fall through, meaning the February card would then become UFC 246.

In any case, Jon Jones (25-1, 1NC) will be fighting Dominick Reyes (12-0) on February 8 2020, regardless of what the card is called. It will be his fourth fight in just over 13 months, after Jones returned from a 15-month suspension for banned substances following his UFC 214 fight against Daniel Cormier.

Since his return, Jones has defeated Alexander Gustafsson (re-capturing his light heavyweight title in the process), Anthony Smith, and Thiago Santos. The Santos fight, at UFC 239, was arguably one of Jones’ toughest challenges to date, with the outcome the first split decision of his career.

Dominick Reyes, meanwhile, remains undefeated after finishing former middleweight champ Chris Weidman at UFC Boston last month. Reyes holds wins over former title fight veterans in Volkan Oezdemir and Ovince St. Preux.
