An intriguing women’s flyweight bout has been booked for UFC 245 later this year, as Jessica Eye will face Viviane Araujo.
Following a failed shot at the UFC women’s flyweight title, Jessica Eye is set to return later this year at UFC 245. UFC officials announced Monday that ‘Evil’ Eye, who faced champ Valentina Shevchenko back at UFC 238, would face Viviane Araujo at the event, scheduled for December at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Eye (14-7, 1NC) won three straight heading into the first title shot of her UFC career. However, in the second round at UFC 238 in Chicago against Shevchenko, her night came to an early and violent end, as she fell victim to a head kick. That crushing blow was a hard pill to swallow, made worse by the internet piling on after the fight. However, Eye remains ranked first in the division, despite Liz Carmouche having challenged for the belt this past weekend in Uruguay.
Viviane Araujo (8-1) gets another big test in the form of Eye. Just two fights into her UFC career, Araujo has earned wins against Talita Bernardo, and former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Alexis Davis. In Eye, Araujo will face her second straight title challenger. That could leave her sitting pretty in the 125lb weight class.
UFC 245 takes place December 14, 2019 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
