After an attempt to put the fight together in March, Bellator MMA have announced that Andrey Koreshkov vs. Lorenz Larkin will serve as the Bellator 229 main event this October.
Bellator MMA will return to Temecula, California this October, and when it does, it will bring top welterweights with them. Bellator CEO Scott Coker announced Friday that the Bellator 229 main event would pit former champ Andrey Koreshkov (22-3) against ex-UFC standout Lorenz Larkin (20-7).
The welterweight duo were expected to meet before. Koreshkov and Larkin were slotted in as the Bellator 219 main event. However, Larkin was forced to pull out of the card due to injury. Koreshkov, who had been bounced from the welterweight grand prix by Douglas Lima, rebounded against short notice replacement Mike Jasper that night in March.
Now, he’ll get another crack at Larkin, who has won two straight under the Bellator MMA banner, and is 2-2 overall in the promotion. Larkin previously fought for Strikeforce and the UFC, and holds notable wins over Robbie Lawler, Gian Villante, John Howard, Neil Magny, and Jorge Masvidal.
Been waiting on this one…
