UFC Minneapolis Results: Jared Gordon Uses Wrestling to Defeat Dan Moret via Decision

Jared Gordon used his wrestling skills to defeat Dan Moret via unanimous decision at UFC Minneapolis. The win snapped a two fight losing streak for Gordon.

Jared Gordon is a recovered drug addict who has found his place in MMA. Gordon entered the UFC as the CFFC featherweight champion with a 12-1 record. After missing weight and winning his promotional debut, “Flash” moved up to lightweight. The New York native defeated Hacran Dias after moving up, but has suffered two consecutive knockout losses heading into UFC Minneapolis.

Dan Moret is a submission specialist from The MMA Lab, owning a 13-5 record with eight submission victories. The Minnesotan will be fighting at home for this one, and looking for his first UFC victory. Moret was knocked out by Gilbert Burns in his promotional debut, then defeated by Alex White in March.

Round 1:

They touched gloves to start off. Gordon countered a body kick from Moret. Moret lands a leg kick, and both men exchange in the pocket. Gordon then landed a combination to get in close. Moret connected with a head kick, but they fell and Gordon landed in top position. In half guard, Gordon landed short shots. Dan Moret is holding on, looking for a possible standup from referee Herb Dean. Moret used the cage to get back to his feet. Gordon was looking to take Moret back down, which he did, but Moret got back up and let it go in the clinch with his knees. Gordon attempted a trip that Moret defends well. Moret gets his one body lock takedown. They exchanged punches to the bell.

Round 2: 

Moret landed a nice body kick but Gordon returned with a left hand and a body kick of his own. Gordon got a body lock takedown briefly, but Moret got up and got his own takedown. Moret landed in mount and then took Gordon’s back. Moret searched for the rear-naked choke. Gordon turned into Moret and gained top position. Moret was looking for submissions off his back but Gordon defended well and landed shots on top. Gordon advanced to half guard, doing enough to stay active with his ground and pound. The round ends.

Round 3:

Gordon slipped and Moret jumps on a guillotine choke, but Gordon passed to half guard and popped out of any danger. Herb Dean warned Jared Gordon to work with his top control. Gordon landed short shots on top. Moret was looking for submissions of his back, but Gordon was defending them easily. Gordon then looked to take Moret’s back, but Moret was fighting it. Jared Gordon got too high on the back and slips off. Gordon goes for another takedown, Moret defends initially with a sprawl. However, Gordon eventually transitions to top control in Moret’s guard again. The wrestling control was too much.
