Melissa Gatto Out, Viviane Araujo In at UFC 237

An infection has stoped Melissa Gatto from making her promotional debut at UFC 237, which has opened the door to another newcomer in Viviane Araujo.

An infection has knocked the debuting Melissa Gatto out of UFC 237. In her place will step another newcomer to the promotion, Viviane Araujo. Araujo now has the distinction of facing off against Talita Bernardo, at the event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this weekend. The bout will be contested at bantamweight.

The news was reported first by AG.Fight, and later confirmed by Gatto herself. On Instagram, the fighter thanked her supporters, saying that “I’m fine, I prepared a lot and we did our best to keep the fight going!”

Gatto (6-0-2) has four finishes among her six wins. She also has fought to two draws, but remains undefeated in her professional career.

In her place against Bernardo comes Araujo (6-1), who most recently earned a TKO win over Emi Fujino in Pancrase. ‘Vivi’ has won her last three fights dating back to 2017.

UFC 237 takes place this Saturday, May 11 in Rio de Janeiro at the Jeunesse Arena. Rose Namajunas vs. Jessica Andrade headlines in a strawweight title fight. The fight marks the first time strawweights have headlined a PPV card in the UFC.
