Brandon Vera will take a crack at becoming a double champ in ONE, while Aung La N Sang looks to defend his second title at Greatness Unleashed in October.
Aung La N Sang has his next fight set, and it’s against former UFC standout and current ONE Championship heavyweight Brandon Vera. Only, it won’t be for Vera’s heavyweight strap. Instead, ‘The Burmese Python’ will defend ONE’s light heavyweight title against Vera, who will move down in weight for the challenge. It’s one of two belts Aung La holds, with ONE’s middleweight title also on his mantle.
A native of Myanmar fighting out of Florida, Aung La N Sang (25–10 (1)) has defended his middleweight belt three times, most recently at A New Era in Tokyo over the weekend. With a second round TKO of Ken Hasegawa, he earned his first win of 2019. Aung La has not lost since he challenged for the middleweight crown against Vitaly Bigdash in 2017. He would go on to win the title in an immediate rematch, and claim light heavyweight gold the following year against Alexandre Machado.
He’ll be waiting for October, however, for his shot at Brandon Vera. Vera (16-7, 1NC) challenged the double champ in the cage in Tokyo over the weekend. Aung La was quick to accept. “I’ve always been a big fan of Brandon Vera, and it would be a great honor for me to fight him in October,” he said.
ONE’s Greatness Unleashed card will be held on October 13, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan at a venue yet to be confirmed. ONE head honcho Chatri Sityodtong confirmed the pairing at the A New Era post-fight press conference, however.
