Newly signed featherweight Felicia Spencer will take on former Invicta FC alumni Megan Anderson when the two ex-champs collide at UFC Rochester this May.
A rare women’s featherweight bout not featuring the division’s champ has been added to UFC Rochester. According to a report by The Canadian Press, former Invicta FC 145lb champs Megan Anderson and Felicia Spencer will face off at the Fight Night event this May. Spencer, who recently signed with the UFC, will be making her debut in the octagon at the event, also known as UFC on ESPN+ 9.
Megan Anderson actually broke news of Spencer’s signing earlier this month, with Spencer later confirming the deal with Cageside Press. Born in Montreal, raised in Florida, Spencer is 6-0 as a pro, with four finishes in her six fights. She holds key wins over Helena Kolesnyk and Pam Sorenson, against whom she claimed the vacant Invicta FC featherweight title. Spencer submitted both those fighters via rear-naked choke.
Anderson (9-3) will welcome Spencer to the UFC while coming off a controversial win over Cat Zingano at UFC 232. The Australian is 1-1 since joining the promotion, starting with a loss to Holly Holm at UFC 225. She then returned against Zingano, catching her in the eye with her toe during a head kick which left ‘Alpha’ unable to continue. As there is no toe-poke rule in MMA (fighters cannot realistically be expected to control their toes in a kick), the bout was ruled a win for Anderson.
Interestingly enough, Anderson and Spencer had a face-off in the Invicta FC cage last July, teasing a fight even though they were in separate promotions at the time.
UFC Rochester (UFC Fight Night 151) takes place May 18 at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY. A welterweight clash featuring Kevin Lee (moving up in weight) against Rafael dos Anjos headlines the card.
Update, 4/19/2019 — Due to a change in UFC broadcast plans, UFC Rochester is now UFC Fight Night 152/UFC on ESPN+ 10
