UFC 235 Winner Macy Chiasson Reflects on Bantamweight Debut, Big Finish

Macy Chiasson looked good, and more importantly felt good, moving down to bantamweight at UFC 235 on Saturday night.

Las Vegas, NV — It’s hard to imagine Macy Chiasson’s debut in the bantamweight division going any better. The Ultimate Fighter 28 winner had been competing at featherweight, and won the show at 145lbs. News that she was moving to bantamweight was met with raised eyebrows, but in the end, it clearly worked out. At UFC 235, she took precious little time finishing Gina Mazany.

Reflecting on the fight backstage, with Cageside Press and other media outlets in attendance, Chiasson said that “we planned for one of two things, either come forward real heavy, or kind of float back, I guess against the cage.” Mazany did the latter. “As soon as we broke off the clinch and I saw her float back towards the cage, I just set up right, left, right. She just kept going back, so I knew I had her at that point.”

“We studied her extensively, and we planned very well for it,” she added.

While there was plenty of doubters when it came to Chiasson making weight, she was happy to prove them wrong. “I really love that everyone was saying all that stuff, because I feel great at 135. It’s the fastest I’ve ever been, it’s the strongest I’ve ever been. As I’ve been making my descent down to 135, all of my records have been going up.”

Lifts, running, and time among them. “Everything is through the roof. It’s insane.”

She expects the cut to get easier as she goes forward. Now that is a scary thought.
