As expected, ‘Jessy Jess’ will return to bantamweight after a health scare while weight cutting a few months back — and she’ll face Talita Bernardo at the upcoming UFC 237.
Jessica-Rose Clark will make her anticipated move up to bantamweight at UFC 237 later this year. Combate was first to report that Clark, a.k.a. ‘Jessy Jess,’ will take on Brazilian Talita Bernardo at the event. The move comes after Clark was pulled from a bout against Andrea ‘KGB’ Lee in December at UFC on FOX 31, after medical complications arose from her weight cut.
Clark (9-5, 1NC) had been on a three-fight win streak, with two wins under the UFC banner, before running up against Jessica Eye at UFC Singapore last year. However, her time at flyweight was troubled even before it fizzled prior to Milwaukee, as Jessy Jess missed weight for her UFC debut against Bec Rawlings.
Clark competed at both flyweight and bantamweight outside the UFC, and struggled to hit 125lbs even then, missing weight for her flyweight debut in 2015, which resulted in the fight being overturned to a No Contest. The Australian actually made her professional debut in the featherweight division.
Now, she’ll head back to 135lbs against Brazil’s Talita Bernardo (6-3). After losing her first two bouts under the UFC banner, Bernardo got back in the win column at UFC Moncton in October, where she faced Canadian Sarah Moras. Bernardo won the bout via a unanimous decision.
UFC 237 takes place May 11, 2019 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
