Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa look set to finally throw down, as the UFC on ESPN 3 main event.
The UFC is targeting a massive middleweight scrap as the UFC on ESPN 3 main event. And it’s a fight that has been a long time coming. On Tuesday, reports surfaced suggesting that Paulo Costa would finally throw down with Yoel Romero on the card, which takes place in April. Brazil’s Combate was among the first to report the booking.
Romero, recently seen competing on a Spanish language reality TV series, last fought against Robert Whittaker at UFC 225. The hard-hitting ‘Soldier of God’ came up short in that rematch, in what was an awfully close fight. Romero (13–3) missed weight for what would have been a title bout, however, taking the shine off the affair if just a little.
.A fight between Romero and Costa had previously been announced for UFC 230. However, Romero was forced out of the bout, and has not fought since.
Paulo Costa (12-0), meanwhile, elected to wait for the fight to be rescheduled. He last competed against Uriah Hall at UFC 226, earning a second-round TKO.
UFC on ESPN 3 is expected to take place at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. A Cuban native, Romero resides in the city, giving him the home court advantage. The UFC has not yet confirmed the booking.
Update, 4/19/2019 — Due to a change in UFC broadcast plans, UFC Fort Lauderdale will now air on ESPN+. The event is now UFC Fight Night 150/UFC on ESPN+ 8.
