Adriano Moraes will have a chance to reclaim his flyweight title when he and Geje Eustaquio meet for the third time at ONE Championship: Hero’s Ascent.
On Friday, ONE Championship announced the main event for another of its 2019 cards. Having already stacked A New Era in March, and set up Eternal Glory in January with a strawweight title fight, the promotion’s second January card, Hero’s Ascent, now has its headliner. That comes in the form of Geje Eustaquio vs. Adriano Moraes III, with Eustaquio’s flyweight belt on the line.
The pair have had quite the history together. Eustaquio (11-6) and Moraes (17-3) first met in 2014, for the then-vacant ONE flyweight championship. Ultimately, Moraes came out on top, finishing the Filipino fighter, a.k.a. ‘Gravity,’ via a second round guillotine. Their rematch would come four years later, with Eustaquio having established himself as interim champion. In the pair’s second meeting, Geje Eustaquio secured a split decision win, unifying the titles.
A rubber match seemed inevitable, especially given the nature of the decision. So it’s no surprise to see the fight headline Hero’s Ascent, which will see Brazil’s Adriano Moraes head into enemy territory in Manila, Philippines to attempt to reclaim his title.
Neither man has fought since their second meeting. Additional fights are expected to be announced for the card in the coming weeks.
