Hesdy Geges met a rude welcome in his transition from kickboxing to MMA, in the form of Domingos Barros at Bellator 211 on Saturday.
Heavyweight action at Bellator 211 in Italy on Saturday saw Hesdy Gerges take on Domingos Barros. The card went down at the RDS Stadium in Genoa, Italy. In something of a mismatch, Barros entered the Bellator cage with a record of 5-0. The fighter from Portugal would be facing a complete newcomer in Gerges, who was making his professional debut in the fight.
Hesdy, who reportedly dropped nearly twenty pounds transitioning from kickboxing to MMA, stayed mobile early. However, once Barros was able to catch him, he quickly got the fight to the ground. That led to Barros moving into half-guard, and from there, he was able to work to side control, and secure a crucifix. Working on an Americana at first, he dropped it in favor of moving to full mount. Gerges, however, was unable to break free as Barros rained down punch after punch. With Gerges covering up, and unable to fight back, the ref waved it off, giving Domingos Barros the TKO victory.
