At Destiny of Champions, Agilan Thani will have a chance to get back in the ONE Championship welterweight title picture, while Yodsansklai IWE Fairtex looks for his 200th Muay Thai win.
ONE Championship will return to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next month, and when they do, hometown hero Agilan Thani will be there. However, it will be ONE Super Series Muay Thai that tops the card, entitled Destiny of Champions. In the main event, Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex will take on Luis Regis in featherweight Muay Thai action.
With 199 professional wins, Fairtex is primed to reach another milestone in his martial arts career. Regis, a former World Fight Organisation Muay Thai World Title, will look to put a damper on that.
It’s Agilan Thani (9-2), however, that local fans will be behind. The welterweight standout was dangerously close to securing a title shot for the title left vacant by Ben Askren. However, Thani came up short against Zebaztian Kadestam, who fights Tyler McGuire this weekend for the title. Now, Thani gets a crack at getting back in the title hunt at Destiny of Champions opposite Kyrgyzstan’s Kiamrian Abbasov (19-4). Abbasov fell to Luis Sants under the ONE banner back in March, but has since bounced back with a win outside of the promotion.
The winner could see themselves paired up against the winner of McGuire vs. Kadestam at this weekend’s Warrior’s Dream card in Jakarta.
In women’s atomweight action, meanwhile, Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi (17-11-1), a two-time title challenger in ONE, will face Jomary Torres (4-1).
ONE Championship: Destiny of Champions takes place December 7 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The card will air free on the ONE Championship app.
