ONE Championship continues to build up steam, as the promotion has announced that Miesha Tate will join the fold as a Vice President, heading to Singapore in 2019.

Things are really starting to pick up for Asia’s ONE Championship. In recent weeks, the promotion has made big strides in closing the gap with the UFC. First, the company signed free agent (and former UFC champion) Eddie Alvarez. Then, they pulled off a trade, acquiring Demetrious Johnson, considered by many one of the all-time greats, for the retired Ben Askren. Just yesterday, the company announced grand prix tournaments featuring those two fighters, as well as the launch of an ESports league. And now? Miesha Tate is joining the company as Vice President.

ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the news on Twitter.

Tate is one of two women (the other, of course, being Ronda Rousey) to hold both Strikeforce and UFC gold. A pioneer among women in MMA, Tate (18–7) retired following UFC 205 in 2016 after back-to-back losses to Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington.

Throughout an illustrious career, however, Tate defeated the likes of Marloes Coenen, Liz Carmouche, Sara McMann, and Holly Holm — all champions or title challengers themselves. ‘Cupcake’ was anything but soft and sweet in the cage, but has proven one of the better representatives of the sport outside it. She’ll also be in good company with ONE, as former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin is also a VP with the promotion.
