A.J. McKee continued his march to the featherweight title at Bellator 205 on Friday, scoring a wild knockout in a quick, action-packed main event.
Capping off the night in Boise, Idaho at Bellator 205 on Friday, the main event between A.J. McKee and John Teixeira was another proving ground fight for McKee. At 11-0 heading into the night he’d been expected to face former champion Pat Curran. Instead, the featherweight star was paired up with John ‘Macapa’ when Curran pulled out due to injury. As McKee told us before the fight, your next opponent is always your toughest fight.
How would the Team Bodyshop prospect fair? Was Teixeira truly his toughest test to date?
A.J. McKee opened the action with a head kick attempt, setting the tone for the early part of the fight, which was fast and furious. Teixeira pressed the action, returning fire with a kick of his own. A bit of a wild exchange and a kick saw McKee down in a transition gone wrong, then back up. Just when it seemed like we might be in for a firefight, a wild exchange had A.J. McKee connecting with a left hand.Teixeira hit the ground hard! McKee went to follow it up, then realized he didn’t need to, pulling up as ref Mike Beltran came in to wave off the affair.
Just like that, McKee had yet another win, yet another finish.
“I need a nice belt around my waist,” McKee said after the fight when asked who he wants next. With Patricio Pitbull holding the belt, it’s a fight many would love to see.
