Pros React to Anthony Smith’s Destruction of Shogun Rua at UFC Hamburg

UFC Hamburg ended with a thunderous knockout by Anthony Smith — see the pros react to Shogun Rua going down.

UFC Hamburg was a night full of decisions — nine in total — but the main event broke up the monotony. That’s when Anthony Smith absolutely destroyed Shogun Rua in little more than a minute and a half. It all started with a front kick that caught Shogun just under the chin. Rua charged forward in response to the blow, looking to do some damage of his own. Instead, he ate more shots from ‘Lionheart.’

Soon, Rua was on his heels, with Smith pressing forward, throwing. Lefts, rights, Rua was covering up, but it seemed strikes were getting through. A couple behind the ear. A big elbow up against the fence. Some more heavy blows, and Shogun was on his way down, with the ref already coming in to wave it off.

Smith, for the second fight in a row, had taken down a legend. A former champion. After retiring Rashad Evans, he’s likely given Shogun Rua, a legend of Pride and former UFC light heavyweight champion, something to think about.
