MMA fans just can’t catch a break, as Carlos Condit vs. Matt Brown is off.
It’s been a rough week for MMA fans. First, UFC 223 lost its main event between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov, thanks for a serious injury sustained by Ferguson. Now, UFC on FOX 29 (UFC Glendale) is down a hotly anticipated stand-up war between Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. That’s thanks to an injury sustained by Brown.
MMA Fighting first reported the news. Making matters worse, it appears Brown has torn an ACL. Condit vs. Brown had been a dream fight for fans of the welterweight division, with both fighters known for their deadly, entertaining striking. It’s also the second time a scrap between the two has been called off, following a 2013 pairing at UFC on FOX 9. That’s still nothing compared to the four times Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov has been cancelled, but painful nonetheless.
The UFC is reportedly looking to keep Condit on the card. The former welterweight interim champion trains with Jackson-Wink in Albuquerque, which makes ‘The Natural Born Killer’ a big part of the event.
Condit (30-11) returned to action in December at UFC 219 after over a year away from the sport. He dropped a unanimous decision to Neil Magny that night. Brown (21–16) was coming off a crushing elbow KO of Diego Sanchez in November.
UFC on FOX 29 takes place April 14 at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ.
