Poland’s KSW was back in action Saturday with KSW 42, which included a pair of title fights, and a champion vs. champion fight between Tomasz Narkun and Mamed Khalidov in the main event!

KSW 42 went down Saturday in Lodz, Poland, with a champion vs. champion showdown in the main event. Featuring an additional two title fights, including an appearance by ‘The Violence Queen’ Ariane Lipski, the first KSW card of the year held plenty of promise. And though low on names familiar to Western fight fans, which some recent cards have been stocked with, the event promised tons of action.

In the main event, Tomasz Narkun, the promotion’s light heavyweight champion, clashed with Mamed Khalidov, their middleweight king. Narkun (14-2) was in the midst of a five fight win streak, and had defended his title three times since winning the belt in 2015. Khalidov, meanwhile, had not lost since 2010, with an impressive fourteen straight wins prior to Saturday. It was also Mamed Khalidov’s second straight champion vs. champion fight; he defeated Borys Mańkowski, then KSW’s welterweight champ, at KSW 39 last May.

No belt was on the line in Narkun vs. Khalidov, rather, the fight was all about the glory.

Two belts were on the line Saturday however. ‘The Violence Queen’ Ariane Lipski was one of the top flyweights outside the UFC and Bellator, and she’d defend her 125lb title against Silvana Gomez Juarez. Lipski was talking about a move to the UFC in the days heading into KSW 42. With the Juarez fight being one of the last on her contract, a lot of eyes were on the champ, as her next few performances could earn her a shot at more free agent money, or set her back a step or two.

In the other title fight at KSW 42, lightweight gold was on the line when Mateusz Gamrot defended his title against fellow Pole Grzegorz Szulakowski.
