Cowboy Cerrone will continue to swim the dangerous waters of the UFC welterweight division at UFC Fight Night 126 next year.
It looks as if the UFC Austin main event is set. Going down in February, a bout between Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros is expected to top the card. MMA Fighting first reported the news on Tuesday. Despite recent hints that Cowboy Cerrone might drop back to lightweight, the fight has been booked at welterweight.
Cerrone (32–10 (1)) has hit the first three-fight skid of his career over the past year. He has dropped consecutive bouts to Jorge Masvidal, Robbie Lawler, and most recently Darren Till in the main event of UFC Gdansk. Two of the three saw Cerrone finished, and many suspected he might head back to the lightweight division.
Instead, he will feature in the UFC Austin Main event against the dangerous Yancy Medeiros. Medeiros (15–4–1) is coming a possible Fight of the Year contender at UFC 218 earlier this month. There, he rallied in a back-and-forth war to finish Alex Oliveira in the third round. Medeiros will enter UFC Fight Night 126 on a three fight win streak.
UFC Austin (numerically UFC Fight Night 126) takes place February 18 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. A women’s bantamweight bout between former Invicta FC champ Tonya Evinger and Marion Reneau was officially announced for the card on Tuesday.
