Bonus winning machine Joe Lauzon was back in action Saturday night, taking on Clay Guida at UFC Norfolk.

Owner of fifteen bonuses in the UFC, Joe Lauzon was clear that he wouldn’t try to force the next one on Saturday. That having been said, against Clay Guida, it looked like fans were in for something special. Guida, after all, owns nine UFC post-fight bonuses of his own.

Starting out with his usual herky-jerky style, Guida showed superior movement early. He quickly connected with Lauzon, dropping him! A right hook, followed by an uppercut flush on the jaw, did the damage. Somehow, Lauzon hung on, desperately looking to stay in the fight. The ref allowed the action to continue, despite Lauzon seeming to be unable to intelligently defend himself. With no other option, Guida added follow up strikes on the ground, and eventually Lauzon rolled to his side, covering up. The ref mercifully waved off the fight at long last, giving Clay Guida a quick first round technical knockout.

While it wasn’t the result Lauzon, who was dazed and bloodied, wanted, it was a great showing for Guida. It was also a strong candidate for a Performance of the Night bonus for ‘The Carpenter’ — who earned the fifth KO/TKO finish of his long career.

Guida announced after the fight that the bout was the last of his UFC contract, but that he wanted to finish his career in the UFC. He then urged the crowd to cheer for the promotion to re-sign him, which they did, at a thunderous volume.
