ONE Championship recently postponed its event in Indonesia at the end of July, but that doesn’t mean that fans won’t get to see the planned main event for that card soon. As per a press release from the Asian MMA promotion released today, Kairat Akhmetov will face Adriano Moraes on August 5 at ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors. The pair will meet to crown the undisputed flyweight champ, as Moraes currently holds interim gold.
Akhmetov (23-0) has not fought since a split decision win over Moraes in November 2015, where he won the flyweight crown. In the meantime, Moraes (15-2) has fought twice, submitting both opponents and capturing interim gold. Akhmetov vs. Moraes will serve as the co-main event for Kings and Conquerors. The previously announced main event pits ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes against American challenger Andrew Leone.
Akhmetov vs. Moraes is not the only addition to the August 5 card however. Bantamweights Toni “Dynamite” Tauru (of Utti, Finland) and Brazil’s Leandro “Brodinho” Issa have also been added to the card. Polish middleweight Marcin Prachnio will take on Gilberto “Giba” Galvão on the card as well.
All three bouts were originally scheduled for the Conquest of Kings card that was to be held in Surabaya, Indonesia at the end of July.
ONE Championship: Kings and Conquerors takes place at the Cotai Arena at The Venetian Macao in Macao, China on 5 August.
