Coming in with a head of steam thanks to a thrilling main event in the TUF 25 Finale last night is UFC 213: Nunes vs. Shevchenko 2. Cageside Press has our staff picks in — see how they match up with yours below!
Some of us fared better than others last night, and UFC 213 in Las Vegas Saturday night won’t be any easier. Our staff is as divided as ever, with not a single unanimous selection among the five fights on the UFC 213 main card.
|Staff Writers||Anthony Pettis vs. Jim Miller||Fabrício Werdum vs. Alistair Overeem||Daniel Omielańczuk vs. Curtis Blaydes||Yoel Romero vs. Robert Whittaker||Amanda Nunes (c) vs. Valentina Shevchenko|
Jay Anderson (26-21)
Dan Doherty (28-19)
Mike McClory (21-20)
Heath Harshman (30-17)
Harry Davies (27-20)
Eddie Law (26-21)
Paarth Pande (26-15)
Jason Payne (16-10)
Despite the lack of consensus overall, just two writers chose long time UFC lightweight Jim Miller to defeat former champion Anthony Pettis. Pettis was making his return to the division he once ruled after an unsuccessful experiment at featherweight. As well, just a single staff member chose Poland’s Daniel Omielańczuk, a former KSW star, to stop prospect Curtis Blaydes.
In the co-main event of the evening, an interim middleweight title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker, we were leaning in the direction of Romero. Sorry, Bobby Knuckles. And in the main event, we were split right down the middle, with four writers seeing Amanda Nunes retaining her women’s bantamweight title, while another four expect challenger Valentina Shevchenko to claim the throne.
