Canadian welterweight Jordan Mein will return to action this July at UFC 213 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Calgary Herald broke the news Thursday, reporting that the Alberta native would face Belal Muhammad at the cornerstone event of International Fight Week.
Mein (29–11), just twenty-seven years old, returned to action at UFC 206 last December after a nearly two year retirement from the sport. He lost a competitive unanimous decision to Emil Weber Meek that night, and will look to snap a two fight losing streak come July against Muhammad.
Despite his young age, Mein has been fighting professionally for over a decade, turning pro in 2006 at the age of 16. He faced current Bellator MMA welterweight contender Rory MacDonald in his first pro fight, and fought all over the Canadian MMA scene until catching on with Strikeforce, where he went 2-1. Mein holds notable wins over Evangelista Santos, Josh Burkman, Dan Miller, and Mike Pyle.
Belal Muhammad (11-2), meanwhile, will enter UFC 213 coming off a unanimous decision win over Randy Brown at UFC 208. The former Titan FC welterweight champ has alternated wins and losses over the course of his four UFC fights.
UFC 213 takes place July 8 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
It’s the second fight announcement today for Canadian UFC fighters following news of Gavin Tucker being added to UFC 216.
