On May 19, one of the biggest free agent signings in Bellator history, will debut at Bellator 179. Rory MacDonald (18–4), a top five welterweight who put on a Fight of the Year classic with Robbie Lawler at UFC 189, will make his debut in London opposite the ever-dangerous Paul Daley.
MacDonald has lost two in a row counting the Lawler fight and a decision loss last Summer to Stephen Thompson, but that hasn’t done much to lessen his popularity or place in the division.
Daley (39–14–2), meanwhile, is coming off an absolutely brutal flying knee knockout of Brennan Ward at Bellator 170.
In advance of Bellator 179, the promotion has released In Focus: Rory MacDonald, going behind the scenes to MacDonald’s training camp in Kelowna, British Columbia. MacDonald seems as focused as ever for the bout, saying “It’s not so much blood that you see weakness [in], it’s more in their eyes, in their body language. When I see they’re not in the fight anymore, that’s when I go in for the kill.”
We’ll see if that’s true against Daley come May 19. The Bellator 179 card currently consists of:
Rory MacDonald vs. Paul Daley
Michael Page vs. Derek Anderson
Liam McGeary vs. Linton Vassell
Cheick Kongo vs. Augusto Sakai
