UFC lightweight Tom Nolan’s opponent has changed, but the mission remains the same. Originally slated to face Evan Elder, the Australian will now meet Charlie Campbell in front of a home crowd this Saturday at UFC Perth.
“Five weeks out I got told that Evan was out. Nothing really changes to be honest. They’re training partners so I think they have a very similar style. Charlie’s a little bit taller, little more aggressive, but very similar style,” Nolan told reporters on Wednesday.
Nolan (9-1) may have drawn an even tougher test than expected, as Campbell is known for gritty performances and knockout power. Nolan brings finishing ability of his own, with several KO victories on his resume, setting the stage for a potential fan-friendly firefight at UFC Perth.
“We’re both finishers. I’m going to keep it to myself though how it’s going to play out,” he said with a smile.
“You’re just going to have to tune in.”
A victory over Campbell at UFC Perth would move Nolan to 10-2 and give him a platform to call out his next target. The Australian lightweight, however, declined to make any such statements ahead of the fight.
“Look I’m not looking past Charlie,” he said.
“I go to get through Charlie first. Who knows who’s next.”
