Anthony Hernandez is ready to “relax and focus on violence” during UFC Vegas 109’s Fight Week, ahead of his main event billing opposite Roman Dolidze.
In advance of the fight, Hernandez (14-2, 1NC) told media outlets during the event’s media day that “the focus is the same thing that it’s always been. Get out there and cook these motherf*ckers until they’re ready to get finished.”
Yet there was another name that “Fluffy” addressed ahead of the bout, as opposed to Dolidze. That would be Khamzat Chimaev, who challenges champ Dricus Du Plessis for middleweight gold at UFC 319 the week after Hernandez’s own fight. To be fair, Hernandez was asked about the title fight — but when it came to Chimaev, he did not hold back.
“I think Du Plessis is going to surprise a lot of people, because he’s a tough, awkward motherf*cker. And Khamzat has fought a lot of small guys that have came up, or are last minute fights,” opined Hernandez. “He’s kind of like a weight bully. I’m still not sold on him. He’s kind of a d*ckhead, so I probably just don’t like him, because my one encounter with him, he was trying to mad dog and sh*t.”
Without getting into specifics, Hernandez added “I don’t play that sh*t, bro. Run it bro. With that being said, it’s not even on my radar right now. I think Du Plessis is going to show the world. He’s tough, keeps coming forward, I’m curious to see what he can do with an actual guy that’s well-rounded.”
Asked whether Chimaev’s title shot is perhaps coming a bit too soon, Hernandez seemed to understand the nature of the business, saying “it is what it is. The UFC goes for following. Obviously I don’t do so much social media like I should do, which is… I get asked the same questions since I was a f*cking 19-year old kid. Like f*ck bro, I can only answer it so many times.”
“I don’t know. I probably should do more media, but if I’ve got to be violent as f*ck and knock every motherf*cker down, then so be it. This sh*t’s just therapeutic for me. I enjoy this sh*t. So if I’ve got to be violent with every f*cking thing, make my way down one fight at a time, then so f*cking be it. I’ll be here and I’m ready for it.”
