Just a month removed from his one-sided beatdown of Darren Elkins, Julian Erosa returns at UFC Vegas 106. This time, he faces an equally tough, although less storied fighter in Melquizael Costa. Despite both fighters being known for their toughness, Erosa knows that he doesn’t get paid by the minute. He wants to go in there and get a second quick finish, but that’s not just because he doesn’t want to take damage.
“I really feel like I’m going to d’arce choke this guy,” Erosa explained. “I’d love to get a first round d’arce because, if I get a first round finish, I’ll be tied with Derek Brunson with the most consecutive first round finishes in the UFC.”
The record for first round finishes is right in front. However, that’s not the only record that Erosa has on his mind. In fact, this win could put him within striking distance of a couple more.
“Also, another dark show would be three d’arce chokes in the UFC. I’d be just behind Vicente Luque, who has four,” he said. “Then it’d be my fifth submission as a featherweight, which would be one behind, I can’t remember who has it, I think six is [the record for] submissions at featherweight.”
In addition to snatching up some records, Erosa also wants to be known as a fan favorite. Putting those two things together is something he feels he can hang his hat on at the end of the day.
“I want to be a fan favorite, but I also want to be a record holder,” Erosa said. “I mean, I think that’s what we all aspire to be – show those performances and just build out our legacy.”
Erosa’s fight with Costa takes place on the main card of UFC Vegas 106. That portion of the card begins at 7pm EST.
