UFC featherweight Julian Erosa is really trying to clean his game up and make it more technical while still being exciting following his victory over Darren Elkins at UFC 314 on Saturday night.
“100%. A lot of the fights that I’ve won that have been super great fights have been fights that I’ve gotten dropped in. I fought Nate Landwehr, he dropped me, and then I knocked him out,” Erosa told Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum.
“Sean Woodson dropped me and then I choked him out. (Charles) Jourdain dropped me and then I choked him out. I have fights that are fantastic fights that you know people love to watch it and it’s enteraining, but if I want to continue winning fights and not take as much damage that’s the way to go.”
Erosa (31-11) took Elkins out in the first round by TKO. He did a good job of avoiding taking much damage while taking out ‘The Damage’ in Miami.
“Darren Elkins I wanted to be patient because of him specifically. He’s a guy that’s not going to shy away from 15 hard minutes. I knew that was going to be there, I wanted to prepare myself for the long haul, and if the fight ended short that’s just a cherry on top for me.”
Three-in-a-row will normally get you a fight with a ranked fighter. It’s what Erosa is looking for next.
“Three first round finishes for myself. Maybe get a top 15 fight would be nice. The winner of that would be a top 15 fight,” he said.
“So maybe that. I’m decent acquaintances with Mitchell, and I’ve actually trained with Silva as well. In this game you’ve got to fight the guys that you’ve trained with and you know. The winner of that would be nice, but I’m not closed to any opportunities for anything else.”
