Miami — Dominick Reyes has had his ups, and downs. Luckily, the UFC 314 light heavyweight, scheduled to face off against Nikita Krylov in Miami, is on the upswing at the moment.
“Confidence is at an all time high. Life is a roller coaster, ups and downs, one day you’re on top, next day you’re struggling or sick or something happened,” Reyes (14-4) told Cageside Press on Wednesday, asked at the UFC 314 media day about coming into the bout on a two-fight win streak. “It’s how you continue to move forward, and I’ve moved forward with conviction and faith and power, an excellent team, and I’m married now. So everything’s great. I’m just moving forward, riding that wave.”
Reyes is a man who knows a thing or two about dangerous opponents. After all, he gave Jon Jones once of his toughest tests at light heavyweight. Krylov, on a three-fight win streak but coming off a year layoff, has seemingly been overlooked by fans despite being ranked #8 in the 205 pound weight class.
“I absolutely agree with that assessment. He’s a dog, man. He’s a dog. I feel like he’s one of the toughest match-ups in the division, but people don’t know about him, because he’s been out, and he’s kind of quiet,” stated Reyes. “He has no social media presence, he doesn’t really put himself out there. So people just overlook him, and they’re just like ‘oh who are you fighting? The Ukrainian guy?'”
“Dude, Nikita’s a beast, I think he got into the UFC before I did. And people overlook the fact that he is on the three-fight win streak. He’s number eight in the division. It’s crazy how much isn’t being said about our match-up. But it is what it is, we’re going to go out there and steal the show.”
What makes Nikita Krylov such a dangerous foe? In the opinion of Dominick Reyes, there are three factors.
“His incredible motor, and his incredible chin. And he’s good everywhere,” outlined Reyes. “A guy like that, he’s going to bring the fight.”
