Longtime UFC veteran King Green is used to being doubted going into most of his fights, and he was an underdog once again against up-and-comer Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 313 on Saturday night.
Green (32-16-1) went into his 50th career bout off a loss to Paddy Pimblett which he described as a ‘blooper’. Having fought the who’s who at 155 pounds, including current champion Islam Makhachev, his resume should be Hall of Fame worthy when it’s all done.
Ruffy (11-1) put his undefeated UFC record (2-0) on the line agains the vastly more experienced Green at T-Mobile Arena. The Fighting Nerds student hope to continue his team’s winning streak alive.
Round 1 Green was in full feel-out mode with feints and fakes to see what Ruffy would do. Ruffy stayed composed like a coiled snake and struck with one of the most beautiful wheel kicks fans have seen in the octagon. The kick landed perfectly and Green was asleep before he hit the ground.
Green took a couple minutes to get back to his feet, but he gave his opponent props.
Don’t hold your breath folks. The Fighting Nerds are here to stay.
Official Result: Mauricio Ruffy def. King Green via R1 KO, 2:07
