Abu Dhabi – UFC featherweight Lerone Murphy sees his opponent Dan Ige at UFC 308 on Saturday night as a step into the top 10.
“He’s a solid opponent. He’s been in the top 15 for like 4-5 years now? You have to be good to keep your position there,” Murphy told reporters on Wednesday.
“It’s a big test for me and I believe after a win over Dan Ige it’s top 10 straight from there.”
Murphy (14-0-1) holds Ige in high regards. Ige has been in the rankings for years now, and stepping into a fight on hours notice made his lore even stronger.
“It’s good man I would have done the same thing. That’s what this sport’s about. You don’t see that nowhere else (but the UFC). We can still get drop outs, pulls outs, and the next best person gets matched up anyway,” he said.
Murphy is one of many UK fighters making a run in the UFC. The biggest name on that list may be that of UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall who is hell bent on getting a fight with champion Jon Jones.
Would Aspinall beat Jones in a fight?
“Right now he does yeah, for sure,” he said.
