UFC APEX – UFC bantamweight Kyler Phillips has all the respect in the world for Rob Font, but he’ll put it aside when they face-off at UFC Vegas 99 on Saturday night.
“The thing is the sport is personal, but it’s also not that personal,” Phillips told reporters on Wednesday.
“There’s a lot of different names in the division, but these guys are all just dudes in the way. Different opponents and it’s different styles. Watching a fight style like mine matchup with certain styles that’s where the fun is. Whoever it is, but this guy’s in the way and I’ve got to get through him.”
Phillips (12-2) will get a very tough Font in the octagon on Saturday, but he’s not worried about the matchup. For Phillips it isn’t just about Font, but the entire division.
“I see myself matching up very well against anybody in the division. Just because of my elusiveness and able to adapt on the fly at any given moment, but still have that basis of a strong fighter,” he said.
“Fighting’s like life. It can be a little storm that happens quick, or there’s sometimes where things get tougher and harder and you’ve just got to be ready and prepare yourself. I’m prepared. I will get that win.”
