Sean Brady Not In A Rush For Title Shot, Couple Fights Away

UFC APEX – UFC welterweight Sean Brady is hyped for his main event bout at UFC Vegas 97 against Gilbert Burns on Saturday night, and all that a victory could bring for his career.

“I was kind of asking for Gilbert. I was asking for a lot of guys, but Gilbert was definitely one of them,” Brady told reporters on Wednesday.

“I respect Gilbert, he’s an amazing fighter, he’s done amazing things. He’s fought for the belt. He had a competitive fight with some of the best guys. He had a great fight going with Jack (Della Maddalena) until it didn’t go his way. I think it’s my first really like true veteran fight that I’m going to get to test myself against someone who’s been there done that.”

Brady (16-1) will take on a very battle tested Burns at the UFC APEX who is riding a two-fight losing streak with losses against Maddalena and the newly-crowned UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad.

“I’m expecting a very hard Gilbert to come out. He’s lost his last two fights, but I would expect nothing less. If he won his last two fights I would expect him to come out the same way. He’s not a guy who’s going to change anything. He’s going to train just as hard, he’s going to fight just as hard, whether he’s on a winning streak or a losing streak,” he said.

“I trained for the best Gilbert.”

A win over Burns could push Brady to heights that he’s been dreaming of. The 31-year-old isn’t going to pretend like this fight will get him a title shot. He knows he’s got more to do before going for gold.

“I want to fight for the belt one day, but I’m not rushing there. After Gilbert, a couple more fights, and I’ll be right where I want to be,” he said.
